As Port Commissioner, John Creighton is well acquainted with the difficulty of funding large infrastructure projects. He started learning these tough lessons when he first was elected to the Seattle Port Commission in 2005. In 2009, he became a member of the State Route 509 Corridor Completion and Freight Improvement Project Executive Committee and was elected chair in 2010. Working with his fellow board members, he had to strategize potential funding sources for an $800 million congestion relief project, no easy feat in a state without an income tax. John Creighton continues to apply these funding lessons today, as he looks for ways to improve the Port without burdeningKing County taxpayers.
